REDI4HEAT – Addressing National Energy and Climate Plans with energy agencies in Greece

The European Energy Network (EnR) Thinking Group Workshop 2023 served as an important meeting ground for energy agencies across the EU, addressing the assessment of national measures outlined in National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs) and their impact on advancing renewable heating and cooling solutions. Among the key highlights of the workshop was the presentation of findings from the EU-funded project, REDI4HEAT.

The EnR Thinking Group Workshop brings together EU energy agencies to exchange best practices and insights for effective problem-solving at national level. In this case, the spotlight was on REDI4HEAT, an EU project committed to supporting the decarbonisation of heating and cooling, a significant segment of energy consumption in European households.

The workshop, organised by DENA, the president of EnR for 2023, saw active participation from numerous energy agencies, both online and in person. Saverio Papa, Policy Officer at Solar Heat Europe delivered a presentation about the outcomes of REDI4HEAT’s analysis of the NECPs. The session also included presentations on national case studies from the Netherlands and Greece, along with insights from DECARBCITIES, an initiative led by EnergyCities. The discussion sparked positive interactions among participants, facilitating constructive dialogues on these topics.

About REDI4HEAT:

REDI4HEAT is an EU-funded project that aims to support heating and cooling decarbonisation, which accounts for a large proportion of energy consumption in European households.

The project’s goal is to assist member states and local authorities in complying with the Renewable Energy Directive (RED) by identifying current strategies’ shortcomings and providing recommendations for improvement. The final goal is to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy solutions in heating and cooling to meet European decarbonisation targets.
