Solar heat sector welcomes the progress in European cleantech manufacturing support

The European Parliament takes one more important step towards the approval of the Net-Zero Industry Act (NZIA), one of the relevant pieces to support EU-made cleantech, such as solar heating and cooling.

The European Parliament (EP) reunited in plenary voted in favour of the Net-Zero Industry Act (NZIA), the final step before the Council’s formal adoption in May.

Solar Heat Europe welcomes the approval by the European Parliamentarians of the NZIA, a significant regulation for European Cleantech, taking this opportunity to praise the work done by the European Commission and the European Parliament in putting together these proposals in such short time.

The NZIA formally recognises solar heat as a crucial industrial sector in the transition to a net-zero economy. This endorsement is a testament to the commitment to sustainable development and competitive innovation within our region. Solar thermal manufacturers are committed to supporting EU’s energy transition, towards a cleaner and more resilient energy system in Europe. And they are also an essential part of EU’s path towards security of supply, both in terms of the pan-European supply of renewable energy (heat) as in the supply of EU-made renewable heat generation equipment.

We are proud in the solar thermal market to already manufacture our products in Europe, meeting most of the EU demand and exporting worldwide. NZIA is a necessary first step towards levelling the playing field for EU-made Cleantech; it should support the further growth of our industry. This initiative will help develop a diverse array of strategies at both EU and national levels, providing our SMEs with the right tools to continue innovating and improving the competitiveness of their solutions” stated Valérie Séjourné, Managing Director of Solar Heat Europe.

Solar Heat Europe’s Manifesto—titled “Solar Heat is SMART”—covers the importance of the solar thermal European manufacturing base and explores how it can be supported to thrive, maximising its contribution to the energy transition and heat decarbonisation. Explore more here.
