A new climate narrative – overcoming the resistance to ecological transition

The Solar Impulse Foundation has launched The New Climate Narrative, a strategy to tackle the resistance to the ecological transition, which was released officially on the 30th of November.  Positioned as the Foundation’s centerpiece at COP 28, this comprehensive initiative seeks to reshape the conversation around climate action.

Starting with a retrospective glance at the efforts undertaken since the Earth Summit in 1992 to protect the environment and fight against climate change, the document emphasizes how the situation has continued to worsen. Moreover, presenting environmental protection as difficult, expensive, and sacrificial for the economy, mobility and comfort have not motivated many. Followed by the conclusion that is imperative to devise a new narrative and replace the one that has not worked in the past.

It is imperative to devise a new narrative and replace the one that has not worked in the past. What we are calling for is no less than a revolution in the way we speak about climate action.” Says Bertrand Piccard, President of the Solar Impulse Foundation.

The document offers over 20 ways to reframe climate action through the lens of solutions rather than problems, highlighting the opportunities offered by the ecological transition to improve the quality of life for people all over the world.

Solar Heat Europe fully supports this initiative and embraces the shift toward a more positive narrative. Representing a direct renewable heat technology, we recognise its potential to address different environmental, economic, and social challenges, including greenhouse gas reduction, enhanced energy affordability, lower energy prices, and improved energy security to name a few. We encourage our members and network to make use of the strategies outlined in the document, viewing them as a source of inspiration for shaping the communication and positioning of our sector in the future.
