Sakarinmäki school

Energy efficient school in Finland

This school in Finland’s energy consumption is supplied by 80% of renewable energy sources. The school organized workshops to include pupils and teachers in the process, and taught them about renewable energy. Screens were also installed in the complex to monitor the energy production. The solar thermal system produces heat and hot water for the large school complex, either directly, or to heat pumps and heat well storages. Part of the energy is also produced from geothermal wells, and a renewable bio-oil-fired heating plant when the solar heat is not sufficient, especially during the winter.
