Solar Heat Europe welcomes CEA as its new member

As complex as the energy transition is, as crucial to climate goals and energy security it is. Solar thermal is one of the renewable technologies that can make a difference and advance decarbonisation. We advocate for better conditions for massive deployment of solar thermal and we do that with the support of our members.

We are glad to welcome a new member in our network, CEA, and we look forward to working together and enabling the growth of solar heat solutions in industry.

CEA’s Liten institute, located at the Grenoble CEA centre and the INES (Chambéry) site, is a CEA technological research institute specializing in energy transition technology. Its research activities focus on a number of key areas: solar power, network management, storage, including batteries, and hydrogen, geared to energy efficiency and a circular economy. Its research encompasses diverse applications in the energy generation and distribution markets, transport and industrial processes, and for the environment. CEA’s Liten institute is a member of the Carnot Institute for Future Energy Sources.

Energy systems and grids in Europe will need to be reimagined if we are to increase the overall renewable energy penetration rate and decarbonize heating, cooling, electricity, gas, and hydrogen production. At CEA-Liten, they believe that their agnostic multi-vector, multi-scale, and multi-technology approach to energy is the most effective strategy.

The CEA is tasked with guiding public decisions and providing the scientific and technical means that civil society (businesses and local authorities) needs to better manage major societal changes, such as the energy transition, digital transformation, future healthcare, defence and global security.

We have the knowledge and technology to accomplish the decarbonization of the industry…but increased action must start this year, not next; this month, not next month; and indeed today, not tomorrow. Through our participation in Solar Heat Europe, we aim to support the promotion of the use of solar thermal energy and other forms of renewable energy in industrial processes at national and international level.” – Valéry Vuillerme, Project Manager, in charge of the CEA’s roadmap for SHIP.
