Solar Heat Europe welcomes Boortmalt as its new member

Solar Heat Europe proudly welcomes Boortmalt as its new member. As we advance the energy transition and strive for a climate-neutral future, collaboration among diverse industry stakeholders is crucial. Boortmalt’s commitment to embracing solar thermal technology as part of their decarbonisation strategy exemplifies their dedication to driving meaningful change.

Heat accounts for the largest share of energy consumption, particularly in the industrial sector, making Boortmalt’s decarbonisation efforts pivotal. We are excited to welcome Boortmalt into our expanding network of members, fostering collaboration towards a sustainable future.

Boortmalt is a global malting company with a production capacity of 3 million tonnes. The group is present on 5 continents with 27 malting plants. Boortmalt’s expertise is widely acknowledged by brewers, distillers, and food industries who rely on the supply of top-quality malted barley. Boortmalt has committed to the Science Based Targets initiative through which we have pledged to do our bit to keep warming below 1.5°C.

Reducing energy consumption and emissions is one of Boortmalt’s four main objectives for sustainable development, along with water conservation, sustainable agriculture, and health and safety issues. “Our goal is to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 50% by 2030 across Boortmalt’s activities worldwide, in line with the Paris climate agreements”, states Yvan Schaepman, Boortmalt CEO. For several years, Boortmalt has been investing in renewable energy sources such as solar thermal to reduce its carbon emissions and limit its consumption of fossil fuels.
