Solar Heat Europe joins officially REN21 as a new Member!

Brussels/Paris, 1 July 2024: Solar Heat Europe is delighted to join REN21 as a new Member!

REN21 is the only global renewable energy policy network bringing together actors from science, governments, NGOs, and industry. Created 20 years ago, its core mission is to “enable decision-makers to make the shift to renewable energy happen – now”.

REN21 is also well known for the quality of its annual reports on the state of play of energy use, renewable uptake, energy transition financing, and national policy monitoring. In its latest report launched last week, the Renewables in Energy Supply Module of the Renewables 2024 Global Status Report, one of the key findings highlights that although we now generate 30.3% of electricity from renewables, heat, and fuels, which deliver three-quarters of energy supply are still being neglected.

“We are delighted to welcome Solar Heat Europe to our community,” said Rana Adib, Executive Director of REN21. “Heat represents almost 50% of the global energy supply, and there is massive untapped potential for solar heat to replace fossil fuel heating. We are keen to collaborate with Solar Heat Europe as our global network’s key industry player and knowledge partner.”

“Solar Heat being one of the key renewable sectors providing heat, it was only natural that Solar Heat Europe would join this fantastic community and interact with all its valuable members,” said Valérie Séjourné, Managing Director of Solar Heat Europe. “Our sector is keen to play its fair share towards the sustainable transformation of the energy mix with our direct supply of renewable heat from the sun’s energy;  our  members are fully committed to the values and mission of REN21.”

Solar Heat Europe is the voice of Brussels’s solar heating and cooling sector, interacting with EU policymakers and influencers alongside many other sectors active on the heat agenda. Established in 1992, our network includes suppliers to our sector, manufacturers of solar thermal collectors, project developers, research institutes, and users of our technology and media. It has been an active contributor to many reports by REN21.

With this membership, Solar Heat Europe establishes itself further at the global level, in addition to the various contacts established notably with IRENA, IEA, and its global research arm for solar heat IEA SHC Solar Heating and Cooling work.

Valérie Séjourné ended: “It is only through collaboration, across sectors, across organizations that we will successfully deliver the transformation of our energy system and achieve sustainable living in general. By further strengthening our collaboration, and participating to the work and events of REN 21 and others, we will become more active and influential toward our common mission: Making that shift happen… as soon as possible!”
