The solar thermal district heating plant in Leipzig is the largest one in Germany, with approximately 13,000 solar collectors of the ground-level facility that will contribute to the city’s district heating supply. It is also one of the largest solar thermal projects worldwide.
With the solar-powered combined heat and power plant, Leipzig’s municipal utility company will feed CO₂-free heat directly into the district heating network. The project is considered an important component for the decarbonisation of the heat supply and demonstrates the role solar thermal energy can play in municipal heating networks in the future.
The project has been commissioned by the Leipzig municipal utilities, in cooperation with technology partner Ritter XL Solar.
