Solar Heat Europe co-signs an open letter to support an independent H&C Strategy

Solar Heat Europe co-signed an open letter sent on Friday, 1 May, to the European Commission along with other relevant actors in the heating and cooling sector. In this letter, we call on the European Commission to place heating and cooling at the heart of the upcoming Energy Security Package.

Decarbonising heating and cooling requires accelerating the deployment of a wide range of clean heat solutions, such as heat pumps, geothermal, solar thermal, thermal storage, and infrastructure like district heating networks – all of which Europe can scale now.

Together, we urge the European Commission to prioritise heating and cooling alongside electrification, with the aim of:

  • Strengthening Europe’s long-term energy security and independence
  • Achieving decarbonisation and climate neutrality goals
  • Ensuring access to affordable, clean energy for households and industry
  • Empowering European industry to drive this transition, while ensuring fair competition across sectors
