We are excited to welcome Sofrigam Group as a new member of Solar Heat Europe in the category of Associate Members – Equipment suppliers/Value chain.
Sofrigam Group has been an expert in thermodynamics for over 40 years and is a key player in the refrigeration sector. The company is deeply committed to decarbonizing cooling technologies to preserve and protect life, enabling it to thrive.
Leveraging the full potential of ammonia, Sofrigam has developed a next-generation refrigerant that is zero-carbon, stable, robust, and high-performing. Its proprietary solid–gas sorption technology allows cold to be generated from heat and stored for later use to produce heat on demand, for any application. This reversible process enables efficient energy cycling without waste.
Sofrigam’s innovation is rooted in a unique reactive material and backed by over 15 years of research and development in material selection, formulation, system design and operation. This breakthrough offers a high-capacity thermal storage solution, capable of holding large amounts of energy for months, or even years, with minimal losses. It opens new possibilities for flexible and sustainable energy management.
Sofrigam was selected to take part in the European MINISTOR project, for which it developed a temperature storage system powered by solar energy.
The MINISTOR project marks a strategic milestone for Sofrigam Group. Building on decades of expertise in cold chain logistics, the company is now extending its technology to new markets, including residential applications with their specific needs and usage patterns. While this sector represents a promising avenue, it is just one of many potential applications for Sofrigam’s solid–gas sorption technology.
MINISTOR is also Sofrigam’s first experience within a Horizon 2020 project. The team is proud to collaborate with leading laboratories and companies across Europe to develop innovative solutions to the urgent challenges of climate change, energy scarcity and rising energy costs.
Welcome aboard!
