Solar Heat Europe welcomes a new member: the University of Évora’s Renewable Energies Chair

Solar Heat Europe warmly welcomes a new member to its family, the Univeristy of Évora’s Renewable Energies Chair (UEvora-CER), in the category “Service Providers/Research Institutes”.

The University of Évora (Universidade de Évora) is a public university in Évora, Portugal. It is the second oldest university in the country, established in 1559 by cardinal Henry, and received University status in April of the same year from Pope Paul IV. Located in the heart of the region in Portugal with the highest direct normal irradiation (DNI) (and one of the highest in Europe) the University of Évora is investing in the development of activities in the field of Renewable Energies with a special focus on Solar Energy.

UEvora’s Renewable Energies Chair (UEvora-CER), established in 2010, stands for the University’s Research Group in this field. UEvora-CER develops applied research on solar radiation conversion technologies and applications to the Energy Transition: PV or CSP power generation; thermal (TES) or electrical energy storage; solar energy for energy supply to Industry and Agriculture; solar resource and Energy system integration strategies.

With a total of 25 full time researchers, technicians, MSc or PhD students, the group has specific qualifications on several associated topics as e.g.: non-imaging optics designs for solar concentrators, development of stationary or quasi-stationary collectors for both process heat and CSP applications, solar concentrated driven systems modelling, molten salt or solid TES, soiling and degradation or resource assessment, forecasting and measurement. The team has also extensive experience in solar systems design and engineering, monitoring and system performance evaluation, and collector testing.

With activities ranging from power production to agricultural irrigation, process heat to solar concentrator development, UEvora-CER beholds, at the national level, the most important Research Infrastructure in this field and leads INIESC – the National Research Infrastructure in Solar Energy Concentration, part of the Portuguese Roadmap of Research Infrastructures and member of the EU-SOLARIS European Research Infrastructure Consortium.
