Solar Heat Europe engages further to accelerate the uptake of affordable and renewable heat

Today, 24 Feb 2025, marks the grim third anniversary of Russia’s aggression in Ukraine. Since then, tens of thousands of soldiers and civilians have lost their lives and been forced into exile. This anniversary marks also the weaponization of energy supplies by a country. For these reasons, our independence vis à vis energy sources as well as our objective to achieve climate neutrality in Europe due to the obvious scientific evidence should be our core priorities.

Here are our latest 3 key activities to reach that goal:

  • Solar Heat Europe is looking forward to the upcoming European Commission communications on  Affordable Energy Action Plan  and the Roadmap towards ending Russian energy imports. Our key messages ahead of this communication can be found herewith, showcasing how our sector Solar Heat, can help tackle our journey towards energy resilience,  home grown energy production from renewables and affordability.
  • In the same vein, we have co-signed together with many organisations this letter by Clean Heat Europe to – Fast-track Europe’s competitiveness in clean heat
    – Unleash a demand shock for clean heat solutions
    – Enshrine air quality at the heart of Europe’s net zero economy

The campaign responds to a stark reality: heating and cooling account for over half of the EU’s energy demand, around 27% of total CO₂ emissions, and a significant share of costly fossil fuel imports. It calls for an accelerated deployment of sustainable district energy systems, heat pumps, renewable heat sources  and energy efficiency solutions across Europe, highlighting their critical role in delivering affordable energy, climate action, energy security, and economic competitiveness.

Let’s join forces to make this energy transition a reality. Because it can be a win for our societies, our independence and our economy.

And may our values for peace, democracy and sustainable progress prevail.
