Joint letter – Keep the Renewable Energy Directive for renewables

Solar Heat Europe together with 115 Members of the European Parliament, companies, NGOs, and other industry associations raised a statement to European policymakers, demanding the exclusion of fossil fuels and nuclear energy support from the Renewable Energy Directive (RED).

The joint letter highlights the role of renewable energy sources in reaching the Paris Agreement’s targets, in addition to its contribution to the EU’s energy security, citizens’ engagement, and economic growth. The RED is the main policy tool to promote renewable energy and it has proven successful in decreasing the prices and boosting investments across Europe. Hence, introducing non-renewable and low carbon fuels will generate public confusion and undermine the trust in the EU’s renewable energy policy.
