The solar thermal market in Spain reached, in 2016, the new lowest installed area of ​​the last ten years. ASIT – Solar Thermal Industry Association of Spain published the data of the past year, revealing a 12% drop in new installations in Spain, compared to 2015.

With 212,190 m2 of new area installed in 2016, this was the lowest figure in the country since 2006 (175,000 m2 installed, according to ESTIF), when the Spanish market was making a giant leap, with new facilities growing, On average, 63% per year (2005-2008). The trend then reversed in 2008 and by 2012, with the market posting double-digit annual contractions. On the other hand, the aid programs of the Regional Autonomous Communities brought an oxygen balloon in 2013 and 2014, contributing to an increase of 1.5 and 9.7% in those years, respectively.
